Our Mandate
NLT’s mandate is to challenge both artist and audience alike by producing and developing provocative scripts – language rich texts that are dark, poetic, funny – which reflect a complex world and lead us to question our hierarchy of values.

Our Vision
Under the creative artistic vision of Trevor Schmidt, with full support of the administrative team and the board, Northern Light Theatre is dedicated to producing intimate and affecting work that speaks to the modern audience of the urban human condition, the failure to find security and the loss of the dreams held by all for love and happiness.
NLT values its position on the far end of the spectrum within Edmonton’s theatre community, fulfilling a unique role as an outspoken and purposefully controversial not-for-profit theatre. NLT fosters ongoing relationships and partnerships with similar-minded companies within our province and country to bring diverse audiences together in meaningful and timely conversations.
Northern Light Theatre is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and engages, under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement, professional artists who are members of the Canadian Actors’ Equity Association.
