The NLT Board are brave individuals who valiantly celebrate our philosophy of artistic risk by working with our staff to help to envision NLT’s vibrant future through support, fundraising, volunteering, input, advice and guidance.
Join us in celebrating our 50th season. Northern Light Theatre is looking for dedicated theatre-loving persons to join our board.
We are a board that strives to support NLT’s mandate and philosophy of artistic risk balanced with fiscal responsibility. We are committed to a healthy productive safe and respectful workplace.
Board commitments include sitting on at least one committee and attending committee meetings on top of attending general board meetings. Board meetings are quarterly with committee meetings being variable. Board Terms are for two years with the ability to re-new for three terms maximum.
Our board is a diverse team that support the company thru governance, policy and fundraising. Areas of expertise needed are accounting/finance, marketing/public relations and fundraising/fund development If you are interested, please contact sue at [email protected]

Sterling Lawrence is a born-and-raised Edmontonian who runs his own law firm together with his wife at Lawrence Law. He focuses on providing services to small businesses and their owners, including real estate and wills. Sterling has served on the multiple boards, including previous terms on the NLT board. He is the proud parent of two daughters and can usually be found following them around to activities all over the city.

Meet Patti Sherbaniuk, a librarian who loves theatre, music, film, and dance. She has a long history with the theatre scene in Edmonton and is amazed by the talent in this city. She is a voracious reader and can usually recommend something perfect for you to read. She joined the NLT board because she likes the creativity, diversity and inclusivity of the company and its productions.

Diane joined the NLT Board in May 2021. She is a retired CPA and has been actively involved with not for profit boards for almost 40 years. Diane loves the variety and availability of live theatre in Edmonton and is excited to work with NLT.

Sue is originally from Saskatchewan, Dr. Quon is a Dentist who has made Edmonton her home for the past two decades.
She is actively involved in the Edmonton community by volunteering countless hours in the theatre and arts community. She also volunteers and is a foster home for a local cat sanctuary.
When she’s not volunteering, you can find her on a golf course, on her motorcycle, on a running trail, yoga mat or on the ice playing beer league hockey. If she’s not there, she’s probably visiting another country or trying out a fabulous restaurant.
She is beyond excited to be part of the NLT team. It’s an organization that she has passionately supported for many years and is honoured to be able to now serve on the board.

Ellen is an Edmonton-based playwright, producer, performer and arts educator. She is the current Festival Director of Nextfest, Edmonton’s annual festival showcasing and support emerging artists. From 2009-2023 Ellen served as the Artistic Associate/ Box Office Manager of Northern Light Theatre. NLT also commissioned and produced the world premiere of Ellen’s play “Everybody Loves Robbie” which was awarded the Gwen Pharis Award for Best New Play by the Alberta Writers Guild in 2020. Ellen is also the Academy Director of the Theatre Network Summer Academy, the Student’s Club Facilitator for the Citadel Theatre, a Sessional Instructor for MacEwan University and a playwrighting and acting teacher with Foote Theatre School at the Citadel. Ellen is a two-time Sterling Award winner for her play “Murielle” co-produced with Blarney Productions and was awarded Edify Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2013. Ellen is thrilled to back on stage after a few years behind the scenes and is eternally grateful for her long relationship of mentorship and learning with the NLT Team.

Tsz Him (Hymns) Chu joined the NLT Board in Oct 2022. He is a real estate and surveying professional and is a dedicated volunteer with organizations associate with local community engagement.
Hymns is a polyglot and has a deep love for acting and theatres. Through serving others in NLT, he is hoping to contribute to volunteerism and community development in Edmonton.

Bethany holds a BA in psychology and drama from the U of A. A playwright, director, and choreographer, she also co-founder Straight Edge Theatre. She served as the Artistic Director of the Walterdale Theatre. She was privileged to assistant direct EVERY BRILLIANT THING at the Citadel last year. Bethany is earnestly appreciative of the team working on this show and their support. Break legs and hearts.

April is an artist, researcher, and the executive director of a local charity that helps vulnerable children harness their superpowers and overcome the impacts of poverty. In addition to her work in the human services sector, April has been an invested member of Edmonton’s theatre community for almost 20 years, working as an artist, producer and volunteer. She studied theatre arts at MacEwan University (2004), was certified as an Artist-Educator by the Royal Conservatory of Music (2012), is certified as an inclusive employer (2018), and has just completed her Master of Arts in Global Leadership (2021). April has led teams in the corporate, arts, and charitable sectors and she is honoured to serve on her first board for Northern Light Theatre.
