The Dark Ages. Middle age. “A Certain Age”.
As NLT continues to centre the voices of women throughout the centuries, our 45th anniversary season is composed of a quartet of plays featuring mature actresses in roles that challenge and inspire — and celebrate the rich history of the years of work that they have invested in their craft. The women they portray are trapped in societies and constructs that value youth and beauty over wisdom and experience — where a woman “of a certain age” has few choices left to her in order to survive with her dignity, her wealth or her very life. These intimate plays are about the strength of these women, their resilience in the face of ageism and underestimation, and the inner determination to seize their power in the face of their own extinction.
