As a registered charity that relies on the generosity of donors to fulfill its mandate, NLT is often asking for your support. This year, we are committed to giving back to our community too.
For each donation of $50, Northern Light Theatre will offer a complimentary theatre ticket (in your name) for EVERYBODY LOVES ROBBIE, by Edmonton Playwright Ellen Chorley, to a student in Strathcona High School's Scona Theatre Company.
NLT has a strong history of commitment to encouraging emerging artists; Strathcona High School is well-known throughout Edmonton for the quality of its arts programming and education. This donation of tickets to Strathcona High School will reduce a financial barrier for youth, providing them with an opportunity to see a live theatrical production, geared specifically towards youth, drama teachers and their students.
Our goal with this campaign is to send 50 students to see EVERYBODY LOVES ROBBIE with a fundraising goal of $2500.00.
Will you play a part by making a donation? All donations will receive a charitable tax-receipt through Canada Helps.
Donations can be made directly through NLT's online ticketing by calling the office at 780-471-1586 or through Canada Helps.
DONATE NOWTo make your donation and to have your tax receipt applicable to the 2019 tax year, please ensure your donation is made before December 30th, 2019. This campaign will end on January 17, 2020.
A Little bit about Scona Theatre Co:
The Scona Theatre program is built on a foundation of great passion for music, dance and theatre and the value of building a community of actors, dancers and singers who are the Strathcona Theatre Company. The school offers Drama 10, 20, 30, Improvisation 15, 25 and 35, Musical Theatre 15, 25, 35, technical Theatre 15, 25,35 and Dance 15, 25, 35. The Strathcona students are a part of three improv teams at the school, extra-curricular musical productions, and the Cappies program and have embraced dance with a vengeance and hope to bring more high school theatre to the city of Edmonton. Senior theatre students are involved in our in house and the city high school one-act festival, which is an adjudicated festival of student work. Scona students also travel for workshops and theatre experiences to London, New York and have even performed at the Edinburgh Fringe
Strathcona is a special place for theatre as try to create varied opportunities for the theater students. Additionally, we reach for theatre that goes beyond our walls and into the community. Our students are encouraged to strive for and learn beyond their school experience. During the summer, many of our students study at Artstrek or the Foote Theatre School to build upon their school season of experience. In addition, our students involve themselves in the Nextfest emerging artists' festival through Theatre Network in Edmonton. Through studies in and out of the school students act, write plays, and with great fortune work with mentor artists in everything from Directing, Dance, Acting, Stage Management, Design and Technical Theatre. To add, our students are getting out living all sorts of theatre from small community productions at the local community houses or the large houses like the Citadel. Scona students have studied in theatre programs in Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, and London, Scotland and continue to find educational opportunities around the globe.
Part of the theatre experience is to connect with those artists who are working and creating in the community and professional world. Scona aims to inspire students to keep theatre as a part of their lives whether they choose to work as artists or other worthy professions.
