BATTLE FOR THE LIMELIGHT SEPTEMBER 9, 2017 IS NOW OPEN FOR REGISTRATIONS

At 1:00 PM, on September 9th, teams comprised of theatre lovers and artists alike will convene in Old Strathcona to receive their first challenge in the Battle for the Limelight Race. Each challenge successfully completed will result in clues to subsequent challenges.  Some challenges will require the entire teams’ participation, while others may require the specialized skill of one individual.

The race will conclude by 5:00 PM with a barbecue and party hosted by Northern Light Theatre, and the awards ceremony, including (of course) the announcement of the winner of the coveted 2017 Golden Hand-job Award!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE 

  1. REGISTER! Complete the registration form and submit to gina.m@northernlighttheatre.com.
    Early Registration deadline is July 31st, 2017
    Regular Registration deadline is August 31st, 2017
    Late Registration deadline is Sept 4th, 2017
    No registrations will be accepted after September 4th.
  2. PAY THE REGISTRATION FEE!  Starting this year NLT has introduced an Early Bird Registration fee. Before July 31st, the fee to participate is $125.00 + gst. So register early.
    On August 1st, the fee goes up to $200.00 + gst. The deadline for registration is August 31st. Late Registrations will be taken between September 1st – 4th, for $300.00 + gst.
    No registrations will be accepted after September 4th.
    Payment can be made by cash, credit card (Visa or MC only) or by cheque, payable to Northern Light Theatre. The registration fee does not include GST, so please be sure to include the GST if paying by cash or cheque, otherwise your registration fee will not be accepted.
    You can pay for your registration online or over the phone at 780-471-1586.
  3. RECRUIT! Build a team. Maximum four people.  All players must be 18+ years of age. More than four of you want to join? Enter more than one team!
  4. FILL OUT FORMS! Each team member must complete the attached “waiver and release” form before the commencement of the race on September 9th, 2017
  5. FUNDRAISE! Use the supplied Pledge Form to raise money for your company: theatre/performing arts company/charity of your choice.   Every cent you raise is yours to keep.   Your company will be responsible for issuing your own charitable tax receipts to your donors.   (We recommend setting up donations through your own website or on Canada Helps.)
  6. RACE! Show up to our secret location in Old Strathcona (to be announced) at 2:00 PM on September 9th ready to battle it out!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I need a vehicle to participate in the race?
    No.  The race will be designed to be carless!
  2. Is there a cost for the BBQ?
    The food is included as part of the registration fee. There will also be a cash bar. We welcome guests to our postrace bar-b-que.  If you have company members that you would like to join in the fun at our post-race celebration, we ask that they consider making a donation at the door of $20.00 per person towards the bar-b-que
  3. Why is the event restricted to 18+?
    The nature of certain events and challenges is not suitable for minors. As well, certain locations/pit-stops require an 18+ clientele by law.
  4. How long will the race take?
    The duration of the race is dependent on the speed of your team, but it has been designed to have a maximum running time of 4 hours.
  5. What about weather?
    The race will take place rain or shine! Contingencies are in place for less than stellar weather conditions. However, teams will still be required to walk from one location to the next, so dress for the weather!   And remember sunscreen – even if it looks cloudy.
  6. Do I need to be an athlete to participate?
    Absolutely not! We use the term “race” lightly. It’s meant to be fun and taken only as seriously as you decide to take it. There’s plenty of room for a competitive spirit, but you don’t need to be a marathon runner to partake.   (In fact there will challenges this year where speediness will not be an asset…)
  7. Social Media
    At least one member of your team will need a fully charged smart phone for the race to receive clues, hints and make posts to social media throughout the race.  (An iphone is better to communicate with the race organizers, but not necessary).  This event has trended on social media across Canada, so be sure to get out there and promote your own company too.  Get your donors to follow you on the day of the race.
  8. What kind of activities can I expect?
    Well, we don’t want to give too much away! But, once again we’re working with Edmonton artists and local businesses to create a variety of challenges.  We take the feedback from our participating teams every year, so we continually try to shake things up and make the race a great adventure and a lot of fun.  Some challenges might involve food (but no 100 year old eggs, we promise!).
  9. Why is there a registration fee?
    The registration fee offsets the costs of the bar-b-que supplies and the work NLT does to create and host the event.
