“The compelling appeal of a typical urban legend is its elements of
mystery, horror, fear or humor. Persistent urban legends are
presented as warnings or cautionary tales and, however unlikely,
maintain a degree of plausibility - for instance a serial killer
deliberately hiding in the back seat of a car…ambushed, anaesthetised,
and waking up minus one kidney, which was surgically removed for
transplantation…the advent of the internet has facilitated the
proliferation of urban legends…”
Our wildly successful Urban Tales cabaret, now entering its 12th year,
has developed into a mentoring event combining the technological and
artistic skills of several emerging artist working alongside seasoned
veterans of the edmonton theatre ecology. Our recent branching out to
include a live webcast of the performance has heightened our profile,
especially among audience members across the country and even farther
afield.
